TRAINING

Aspire was instrumental in establishing a Training Centre that provides pre-employment training for people affected by AS or a related social disability. Tuiscint trains students to successfully make the transition from dependency to managing their own lives more effectively. This three-year course is designed to be flexible, providing opportunities for the students to practice and apply the skills being learned. The course consists of social skills, personal development, independent living & workplace skills, IT and work experience. Anyone over the age of sixteen (16) who has been diagnosed as having AS, HFA or a related social disability, and lives in the South Dublin area, may participate in the course. Numbers are limited.

Aspire Adult Project

Aspire has received funding to initiate a two year supported employment project for young adults. This project aims to assess the skills and ambitions of individuals in order to establish goals for the future. This assessment will then be used to match individuals to potential employment or further education. Individuals will then receive personalised support in whichever venture they choose to undertake. The project will be person centred with the aspirations of the individual being of paramount importance.

Aspire has undertaken research into the current educational and employment situations of young people with Asperger Syndrome, and their ambitions for the future. This research will be used to identify employment targets and preferred sectors of the participants. An additional member of staff has been recruited to work with the adults on this project to prepare them for employment and assess their further education needs. This person will also liaise with employers in order to secure work placement and experience opportunities, should the participants wish to avail of them.

Employer Information

There are many advantages to employing somebody with Asperger’s Syndrome.

As a result of these talents, employees with Asperger’s Syndrome can make an invaluable contribution to any workplace. Click on the PDF file below for a Guide to Asperger’s Syndrome for Employers. It is a very useful document for anyone to read as it includes information on what Asperger’s Syndrome is, challenges it can pose in the workplace, what the employer can do to overcome these challenges and the benefits of employing people with Asperger’s Syndrome

Employer’s Guide to Asperger’s Syndrome second edition

As part of the Adult Project, Aspire will work with employers to promote the benefits of employing a person with Asperger Syndrome. This will be achieved through the provision of information, on-going support to the employer before and during the participant’s time with the company and awareness raising throughout supported employment week.
